Beijing’s Boeing Halt Could Threaten the C919 Project

Beijing’s decision to stop Boeing deliveries could put China’s goal of expanding its domestic narrow-body jet, the C919, into the Southeast Asian market at risk.

If the U.S. retaliates by halting the export of essential technologies and parts for the C919, the project could suffer a major blow. Around 40% of the aircraft’s components are imported from the U.S., and its most critical technologies are largely American.

Out of the 82 primary suppliers involved in the C919 program, only 14 are Chinese companies—and half of them operate through foreign joint ventures.
